StoneSharp furniture is run by Neil Sharp and for over twenty-five years he has produced fitted and freestanding furniture, firstly in London and more recently in a new workshop in East Kent. With a training in History of Art, the depth of Neil’s knowledge of furniture and its history, its design and construction, has enabled him to work across all periods and styles, although more naturally drawn to modern 20th and 21st century design.

His key design interest over recent years is working with wood grain and colour. The challenge was to invent a paint surface that could hold its own against the distinctiveness of wood grain, without distracting or merely complimenting. This became the ‘dotted’ technique of paint spraying: the host of colours that make up the surface (a kind of pointillism) have a lively yet soft effect on the eye, which meets the beauty of wood head on, enhancing the pleasure in both. This approach has been developed further for the custom Larders Neil has recently been making.

Along with the day-to-day schedule, his approach in the workshop is experimental, testing himself to design and make something on the hoof, transforming found or reclaimed material. Keep an eye on the One-of a-Kind section for updates.

Neil Sharp works throughout the South East and London. Free-standing designs can be delivered nationwide.
